Penguins coach Dan Muse makes 1 thing clear about Sidney Crosby’s embellishment penalty

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the brink of elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In Game 3 against the Philadelphia Flyers, Sidney Crosby was called for an embellishment penalty, the first of his NHL career.

After the game, Penguins coach Dan Muse shared his opinion on the call, per DK Pittsburgh Sports.

“We don’t have a single embellishment all year. Sidney Crosby doesn’t have an embellishment in 21 seasons. Stick in his face, they take both of them. I disagree on that strongly. We didn’t come into this series to start [embellishing] now. Sid doesn’t embellish,” Muse said.

The incident occurred late in the first period, with the Penguins leading 1-0. Garnet Hathaway was called for high-sticking against Crosby, but with Crosby on the ice, trying to sell the penalty, he got called for the embellishment. This resulted in the two teams playing four on four instead of the Penguins going on the powerplay.

While the Flyers did not score when it was four on four, the lack of a powerplay may have changed the game. The Pens had already scored on the man advantage in the game, and both goals for the team in the game would come on the powerplay.

Instead, the game remained 1-0 heading into the second period. The Flyers would find the back of the net three times in the period, going on to win the game 5-2.

Now, the Penguins have a tall task in front of them. Only four teams in NHL history have come back from a 3-0 series deficit to win the series. The last came in 2014, when the Los Angeles Kings were down 3-0 to the San Jose Sharks, and came back to win the Western Conference quarterfinals series.

Game 4 is set for Saturday night in Philadelphia with an 8 p.m. ET puck drop.
