Paul Skenes weighs in on Pirates’ 2026 city connect uniform

The Pittsburgh Pirates are wearing their 2026 City Connect uniforms against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. Before the game began, starting pitcher Paul Skenes shared his opinion about the club’s new alternate uniform.

During a fun fan-made interview, the 24-year-old ace answered a series of trivia questions regarding his connection with other players in MLB. However, the first question asked him what his favorite part of the City Connect jerseys is, and he very quickly named the lettering, or the script, on the uniforms.

“I like the script,” said Skenes when asked about the 2026 City Connect uniforms. “It’s very pirate-y.”

The Pirates were one of eight teams to reveal City Connect uniforms for the 2026 campaign. Pittsburgh finally debuted them in a game on Friday against the Rays. The organization went with an all-black approach, making the yellow more of a secondary color on the uniforms. Meanwhile, the other seven teams went with a more colorful approach.

While Paul Skenes seems to like the jerseys, he did not have the privilege of wearing them on the mound. Instead, Bubba Chandler got the start against the Rays on Friday. The 2025 Cy Young Award winner may have a chance to play in them at another time this season.

In the meantime, Skenes is attempting to right the ship after having a horrific outing on Opening Day. Since then, his performances have been what fans are used to seeing, as he hasn’t recorded anything over a 1.80 ERA and 1.000 WHIP in his last three games.
