Patriots rumors: Will Kayshon Boutte’s dominant minicamp change trade status?

The New England Patriots have been in the news plenty during the offseason program, namely for trade talks surrounding their wide receiver room. First, it was all about the receivers the Patriots were adding after New England traded for A.J. Brown in a blockbuster deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Shorty after Brown touched down in New England, the focus turned to who might be on the way out. Kayshon Boutte, who broke out in a big way late in the 2025 season, was at the top of that list. Boutte will see some of his targets eaten up by Brown and is still young enough where he could see some valuable draft capital as a trade return. Boutte was away from the voluntary portion of the offseason program as a result, but he made a name for himself at mandatory minicamp.

A potential deal seems far away, and Boutte is already making an impression that he could still be useful for the Patriots. At mandatory minicamp, Boutte was one of the best receivers on the field, which might be enough to convince the Pats to keep him around. ESPN’s Mike Reiss gave him his flowers after minicamp concluded.

“Fourth-year receiver Kayshon Boutte didn’t miss a beat after electing to stay away from voluntary practices,” Reiss wrote. “He looked like one of the best receivers on the field in the first practice of mandatory minicamp.”

Of course, a potential contract extension for Boutte is the current bridge between he and the team, and it is also holding up a potential trade. The former LSU star is entering the final season of his rookie contract, but he showed more than enough last season to warrant a new deal.

Whether the Patriots want to give him a deal or not remains to be seen. Either way, it appears that this issue will drag through the summer and maybe even into the season. Boutte may even have the chance to make himself some more money if he continues to show out during the season.
