Panthers rumors: Hurricanes, Golden Knights were also in on possible Brady Tkachuk trade

NHL insiders are reporting that Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa Senators has been traded to the Florida Panthers where he will join his brother, Matthew Tkachuk. The trade was first reported by Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic and TSN and fellow insider Elliotte Friedman also reported the deal as did ESPN.com. However, neither the Panthers, Senators nor the NHL had made the official announcement as of 6:30 p.m. ET.

The Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights made inquiries about dealing for Brady Tkachuk, but were unable to entice the Senators to complete the deal. The Panthers are sending two first-round picks in the upcoming draft to the Senators as well as a 2029 first-round pick and a 2030 second-round pick.

The Panthers picked up an additional first-round pick earlier in the day when they traded Mackie Samoskevich to the Seattle Kraken. The two first-round picks are the No. 9 selection that came from the Kraken and the 25th pick that is the Panthers’ own.

There are no details on the specifics of what the Hurricanes or Golden Knights were willing to send the Senators in order to complete a deal for Brady Tkachuk. The Minnesota Wild were also reportedly interested in acquiring the older Tkachuk brother from the Sens.

Brady Tkachuk has two years remaining on a 7-year, $57.5 million contract that he signed in 2021. The contract has a cap hit of $8.2 million in each of the next two seasons.

It is expected that both brothers will skate on the same line with the Panthers.
