This Green Bay Packers legend has a Super Bowl win under his belt, but he is more excited to see his son make his own professional sports victory at the World Cup.

Antonio Freeman was pivotal in the Super Bowl 31 win against the New England Patriots in 1997. The Packers beat the Patriots 35-21, and Freeman took the spotlight with his 81-yard touchdown pass from Brett Favre. The iconic play set the Super Bowl record for the longest reception in the history of the game.

Now Antonio is supporting his 21-year-old son Alex Freeman amid his journey to the World Cup. Alex is a defender and a member of the Team USA soccer team, who is less than a week away from his first World Cup match. The NFL veteran shared with TMZ why Alex’s moment triumphs his Super Bowl win.

“It’s no comparison,” Antonio said. “I mean, and to be honest, to reach the platform that he’s reached, my Super Bowl was very special, but there’s still no comparison to where he is right now as a 21-year-old, you know, picked and selected as one of the 26 best in the United States of America to represent your team, something I never got a chance to do. So he’s among another echelon of elite and him by far.”

“You know, my hair stands up on my arm. You know, my stomach is uneasy,” he continues. “You know, it’s just an array of emotions that really takes over every time I see him walk out and get on that pitch and get to do something that he loves to do and he’s worked so hard for. And, man, as a parent, it’s nothing like that. You know, just seeing your kids be successful and be successful and love what they do.”

He shared that the experience reflection on how his parents felt seeing him play in the NFL.

“Now I understand what my parents went through,” he said.

Antonio played the majority of his NFL career with the Packers and spent one season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Packers legend will be able to watch his son in his first game as the U.S faces Paraguay on Friday, June 12, 2026.
