Orioles’ Jackson Holliday shut down amid wrist injury, but there’s a catch

The Baltimore Orioles are eagerly awaiting the return of star young infielder Jackson Holliday. Holliday is dealing with an issue in his hamate bone. It appears that there is another small setback in his recovery.

“Jackson Holliday (hamate) is being shut down for a few days with wrist soreness stemming from his hamate surgery. He will then start hitting and begin a new rehab assignment,” The Baltimore Sun reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Holliday suffered the hamate injury following the 2025 season and missed essentially all of spring training. His wrist soreness is being described by the team as normal, considering he had surgery.

Holliday has not been able to play for Baltimore yet during the 2026 season. While the Orioles certainly miss him, the club is also out to a solid 9-7 start.

The Orioles are coming off a thrilling win on Monday over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Baltimore rallied from a six-run deficit to win the game.

The young infielder showed a lot of promise for Baltimore during the 2025 campaign. Holliday posted a .242 batting average during that season, with appearances in 149 games.

Expectations were high heading into 2026 that Holliday was set for a breakout year. Baltimore even paired him in the lineup with free agent star Pete Alonso, who signed a deal with the team before the season.

So far, Orioles fans have had to wait and see what those two players might do together. Holliday has been out, even though he really wanted to push for an Opening Day return.

Holliday had mixed success on his latest rehab assignment, with Triple-A Norfolk.

“Holliday hit .167 (7-for-42) with two doubles, three RBIs, three walks and a .453 OPS in 11 rehab games for Norfolk,” MLB.com reported.

Orioles fans hope that Holliday is able to return to the team soon. Baltimore plays the Diamondbacks again on Tuesday.
