Olivia Miles outplays Azzi Fudd, leads Lynx to 8th straight win

In a much-anticipated battle of the top two picks of this year’s draft, it was Olivia Miles who shone, leading the Minnesota Lynx to their eighth straight win after taking down the Dallas Wings, 100-76, at Target Center on Tuesday.

Miles, who has lived up to the hype of being the No. 2 pick, badly outplayed Azi Fudd, who was selected before her. Miles tallied game-highs of 24 points and six assists on top of seven rebounds, while Fudd only had six points on 2-of-12 shooting.

The Lynx, who led by as much as 27 points, shot 54% from the field. They pummeled the Wings in the interior, finishing with a plus-20 in points in the paint, 48-28.

According to ESPN Insights, Minnesota has been the only team this season to shoot at least 70% from the field. The Lynx have already done it twice.

The 23-year-old Miles is an early frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, averaging 17.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.4 steals. She is shooting 53.2% from the floor, including 37.1% from long distance.

There were concerns that her high usage at Notre Dame and TCU may not translate well in the WNBA. But so far, she has proven that she can excel and adjust her approach.

Aside from the high-scoring guard, multiple players have stepped up for the Lynx in the continued absence of Napheesa Collier due to an ankle injury.

Against the Wings, Kayla McBride added 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists and Natasha Howard chipped in 21 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Lynx will face an acid test against the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday.
