Oilers’ Kris Knoblauch provides critical Leon Draisaitl update ahead of Ducks series

The Edmonton Oilers hope to reach another Stanley Cup Final this season. Edmonton begins a playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch is providing an injury update about one of his stars, Leon Draisaitl.

“Same plan as before, just going day by day,” Knoblauch said, per NHL.com. “I anticipate him joining us sometime in the first round, whether it’s Game 1, Game 4 or Game 5, whatever it is, but right now, it’s just day by day.”

Draisaitl has been dealing with a lower body injury. He suffered it back in March, during a game against the Nashville Predators. He missed the entire remaining regular season, after suffering that injury.

It would be huge for Edmonton to get Draisaitl back for the Ducks series. He is an anchor on offense.

“Draisaitl is ninth in NHL scoring with 97 points (35 goals, 62 assists) in 65 games,” the outlet reported.

Edmonton has had a lot of success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs the last few years. The Oilers have lost back-to-back in the Final though to the Florida Panthers.

The objective this season is to win the whole thing.

“The expectation is to win the Stanley Cup,” Oilers forward Zach Hyman said, the outlet reported. “If we lose in the first round or we lose in the Final we’re going to be (upset).”

For the Oilers, the confidence is high as the team skates into their series with Anaheim.

“The expectation is the same as always,” Oilers captain Connor McDavid said. “We’ve got a great belief in here. Playoff hockey is unique. It’s a skill to win in the playoffs, and we feel pretty good about having that skill, having been there and winning a lot of playoff games. That being said, it’s exciting for everybody and we’ve got to be ready to roll.”

Oilers fans hope that things turn turn out different for the club this year.
