North Carolina basketball’s Michael Malone finally secures signing of 19.9 PPG Utah transfer

The North Carolina basketball program has had a busy offseason since their NCAA Tournament loss to VCU, first firing head coach Hubert Davis and then hiring Michael Malone to the same position. Malone has been hard at work in trying to secure commitments in both the transfer portal and from players coming out of high school as he looks to help turn North Carolina back into a contender in the ACC.

Recently, the Tar Heels made waves when it was announced that Utah transfer guard Terrence Brown would be committing there, but as of yet, there had been no official signing, causing some fans some concern that the addition might be up in the air.

However, that situation was finally resolved on Tuesday morning.

“Utah transfer guard Terrence Brown has officially signed with North Carolina, @On3 has learned,” reported Pete Nakos of On3 Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Brown averaged nearly 20 points and 4 assists per game last year for Utah, and he will join a North Carolina team that will be in need of some backcourt production heading into next season.

This past year, the Tar Heels were led in just about everything by star freshman Caleb Wilson, but unfortuantely, Wilson got injured before the NCAA Tournament began, and has since opted to take his talents to the NBA Draft, where he is likely to be one of the first names off the board.

Malone has plenty of experience working with elite guard talent, including his former Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray, so that could have been part of what motivated Brown to make the switch.

Malone and his staff will hope to continue making big additions to the roster as the offseason continues.
