Nick Sirianni ribs Eagles rookie Makai Lemon over restaurant blunder
As the Philadelphia Eagles descend on the Jefferson Health Training Complex in South Philly, one of the most popular players to keep an eye on is the new No. 9, Makai Lemon, who is catching passes from Jalen Hurts and company for the first time this spring.
For a rookie, there’s so much new to learn, from the playbook, to the tendencies of their teammates, and the layout of their new city, but for a player with the surname of a citrus, Lemon has also been on a bit of a culinary tour, even if, according to Nick Sirianni, he doesn’t necessairly know how to pronounce every item on the menu.
“Vic, Makai said he went to the saloon,” Sirianni recalled. “He had the lobster, he had the pasta, he had the gnocchi.”
Nick Sirianni couldn’t wait to tell Vic Fangio how Makai Lemon mispronounced gnocci.

Now, for a true-blue Pennsylvanian Italian who has a world-famous meatball recipe, the idea of Lemon not knowing how to pronounce one of the Boot’s most famous dumpling presentations undoubtedly prompted a laugh. While Lemon went to school in one of the greatest food cities in the world, he may have simply stuck close to USC, feasting on Taco-Taco and Rosso Oro’s instead of venturing a little off campus to eat Michelin star cuisine like Holbox.
And yet, if Lemon can turn in the kind of production he showcased at the Memorial Coliseum, he won’t have to look too hard for a good meal in the City of Brotherly Love, as James Beard winners like Kalaya will happily plate up a dish to go with a “Go Birds” for good measure.
