Nice vs PSG predictions and betting tips – Parisians finally coming good?

Paris Saint-Germain are ready to turn their attention back to Ligue 1 after a successful fortnight in the Champions League. Nice are their opponents this weekend.

PSG’s lead at the summit of the standings has been trimmed to one point, so this is an important game for Luis Enrique’s men. Will they take care of business on the south coast?

Nice vs PSG predictions

Even the most ardent Paris Saint-Germain fan would admit the French and European champions have flattered to deceive for much of this season.

In Europe, PSG missed out on a top-eight finish in the league phase of the Champions League for a second season in a row, as dropped points against Bayern Munich, Athletic Bilbao, Sporting CP and Newcastle United proved costly.

PSG won only one of their last five matches in that part of the competition, leaving them down in 11th place after all eight fixtures were complete.

In the play-offs, Luis Enrique’s side were widely expected to make light work of Monaco, a fellow French side.

Instead, PSG scraped through with a 5-4 aggregate victory. Despite having 10 men for more than 30 minutes of the second leg, Monaco were not far away from forcing extra time.

Results have been better in Ligue 1, but even there PSG have not been altogether convincing. They have already lost four matches, including a 3-1 home defeat by Monaco earlier this month, while back in October they drew three out of four games.

PSG’s inconsistencies invited a title challenge. Rather than Monaco, Marseille or Lyon pushing them close, Lens have emerged as unlikely contenders for the crown.

Throw in a last-32 exit from the Coupe de France at the hands of local rivals Paris and this has been (by their standards at least) a mediocre campaign for PSG up to now.

However, Luis Enrique no doubt believes a corner has now been turned. In the last 16 of the Champions League, PSG really turned up.

Chelsea are a flawed team and not currently among Europe’s best, but it was nonetheless hard to not be impressed by PSG’s 8-2 triumph over two legs.

At both the Parc des Princes and Stamford Bridge, we saw signs that PSG are getting back to the level they reached in the run-in last season, when they swept all before them at home and abroad.

The Champions League remains PSG’s principal focus as they attempt to become only the second club after Real Madrid to retain the trophy in its current form.

But with Lens just one point back in Ligue 1, Luis Enrique and his players cannot afford to take anything for granted in the title race, starting with Saturday’s trip to Nice.

Nice vs PSG betting tips

Nice host Paris Saint-Germain as the Ligue 1 leaders return to domestic action.

PSG too strong

PSG have a game in hand on Lens, so their present one-point advantage could easily become four.

But with Lens in action on Friday night, there is a good chance PSG will be second in the standings by the time they kick off at the Allianz Riviera.

Nice are having a difficult season. The Eagles finished fourth last term; going into the weekend, they are way down in 16th.

Buoyed by their thumping of Chelsea, PSG should win this game without too much difficulty. A victory by a two-goal margin is well within reach for Luis Enrique’s charges.

Goals await in Nice

Paris Saint-Germain were utterly ruthless in both legs against Chelsea.

The Blues’ aggregate xG was actually similar to that of their opponents, yet PSG were much more efficient with the opportunities they created.

Luis Enrique will want to see more of the same here, and the evidence suggests this will be an open game.

Nice’s matches this term have averaged 3.08 goals, the fourth-highest figure in the division.

Only Metz have conceded more often than Nice, so PSG’s frontmen should have plenty of joy against one of the leakiest backlines in France.

Dembele to find net?

Ousmane Dembele took a back seat on Tuesday as Khvicha Kvarataskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu struck against Chelsea.

That means Dembele, Kvarataskhelia and Barcola are all now level on 12 goals scored in all competitions this season.

But with Barcola out of the Nice game through injury (he is expected to miss at least a few weeks of football), Dembele is our pick to find the back of the net.

The France international has a better goals-per-game rate than any of his fellow PSG forwards, and he will cause Nice plenty of issues on Saturday.
