NFL mock draft 2026: Minnesota Vikings select Kayden McDonald, DT, Ohio State

Welcome back to another year of the SB Nation Community Mock Draft!

As we do every draft season, all 32 NFL sites at SB Nation come together to fill out an entire first-round mock draft leading up to the actual event that takes place from April 23-25. One by one, our site managers will make their picks and provide their reasoning behind the selection. From there, I will provide further analysis on top of giving a final opinion on the pick!

Without further ado, let’s keep things rolling!

With the 18th overall pick in the 2026 SB Nation Community Mock Draft, Daily Norseman’s Christopher Gates and the Minnesota Vikings select Kayden McDonald, defensive tackle, Ohio State!

Gates’ analysis:

My analysis: I agree with Gates’ analysis on this pick in that the Vikings probably need some beef in the middle of the defensive line more than a new safety on the back end. With the way the Vikings want to play defense under Brian Flores, they’ll need big bodies to plug up as many holes as possible as to not get burnt by well-timed runs into some of their pressure packages.

McDonald is the best at doing just that while still having the strength to push the pocket when needed. He likely won’t be a three-down player immediately at the next level, but I can easily foresee him being able to re-work his body, transform some of the bad weight into better mass, and become an all-around menace in the middle.
