NFL Draft trade frenzy nixed Seahawks’ plans before Jadarian Price pick

The 2026 NFL Draft kicked off on Thursday night, with many teams looking to pick the future of their franchise. As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks had to wait out 31 other selections before making their pick. They used the 32nd pick on running back Jadarian Price out of Notre Dame.

However, things could have gone much differently. General manager John Schneider mentioned that he had plans to trade back. But trade activity around the 32nd pick prompted those plans to change quickly.

“We felt like we had some opportunities (to move back) for a minute,” the Seahawks general manager said, via The Seattle Times reporter Bob Condotta. “They fell apart. A lot of trading going on right ahead of us, but I mean, he kind of stood alone. Great player, good person, outstanding competitor. He’s a Seahawk.”

Price shared a backfield with highly touted ball carrier Jeremiyah Love. Love went third overall to the Arizona Cardinals in the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday. Love received much of the fanfare, but Price was certainly a solid player. He rushed for nearly 1700 yards across three seasons with the Fighting Irish.

The Notre Dame star will be tasked with filling big shoes. Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III left the Seahawks in NFL Free Agency. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on a three-year contract.

The Seahawks looked into all options with their final pick of the first round. While the NFL Draft got chaotic at the end, Seattle is fine with its selection. They believe Price can play a big role in keeping them competitive following their Super Bowl triumph this year.
