New Premier League club enters £75million race for Newcastle star Anthony Gordon

Chelsea could look to revive their interest in Anthony Gordon – four years after his failed transfer, talkSPORT understands.

The 25-year-old could be on his way out of Newcastle this summer after three-and-a-half-years at St James’ Park.

Gordon is the Magpies’ top scorer this term – firing in 17 goals in all competitions from 46 matches – while also chipping in with five assists.

His form in what has been a disappointing season for the Tyneside outfit has led to a transfer battle emerging to secure the England international’s services.

talkSPORT understands that Newcastle would be prepared to sell Gordon should they receive a fee of around £75million.

It is believed that Bayern Munich are set to advance on their interest in the winger, who is tied down at Newcastle until 2030.

Meanwhile, we told you in February how Liverpool remain keen on prising away the boyhood Reds fan.

Arsenal are another side that have been linked with making a move for Gordon as the Gunners look for an upgrade on both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on the left flank.

And now Chelsea could look to join the party as they contemplate bolstering their attack, and have not discounted making an approach for Gordon.

That is despite bringing in Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens last summer to play in the left wing position – both of whom have failed to impress.

The west London outfit are also set to welcome the arrival of Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon, having agreed a £44m deal to sign him last year.

Though it remains to be seen whether Gordon would be prepared to make the move to Stamford Bridge if the club fail to secure Champions League football.

As it stands, Chelsea are in a fight for Europe altogether as they sit eighth in the table with just four matches remaining.

Five consecutive top-flight defeats without scoring have seen the Blues tumble down the table, where they are now ten points off a spot for Europe’s premier competition.

Their best chance of sealing a place in the Champions League at the moment is by finishing sixth, and hope that Aston Villa, who are in fifth spot, win the Europa League.

Chelsea boast historical interest in Gordon having come close to signing him while he was on Everton‘s books in 2022.

They went as high as £60m late in the summer window after having a £40m bid rejected, but the Toffees refused to cash in on him – before selling him to Newcastle in a deal rising to £45m months later.

Gordon revealed in November 2024 how he had been ‘desperate’ to join Chelsea and play under now-England boss Thomas Tuchel.

And he remains an attractive option for Chelsea due to his versatility in being able to play on the right wing as well as up front.

It is believed that Chelsea will look to target Premier League-proven players this summer in what promises to be a busy window for the club.
