New Day’s Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods leave WWE in shocking departure

Just a week after WWE’s latest wave of releases, several more Superstars have left the company, including New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, ending their long tenures with the promotion.

Fightful Select and Cory Hays of Bodyslam (via SEScoops) report that New Day’s Kingston and Woods are leaving WWE, noting that it was a “mutual” split.

Additionally, two members of the MFT faction, Tanga Loa and JC Mateo, are leaving as well. The status of their stablemates seemingly remains unchanged.

The MFT faction is currently led by Solo Sikoa. There has been some friction between Sikoa and Tanga’s adoptive brother, Tama Tonga. Tama and their other adoptive brother, Talla Tonga, are seemingly still with WWE.

All four Superstars are now listed on the alumni section of WWE’s website. It’s unknown what the future holds for all parties involved.

The New Day’s departure was the most surprising. The faction has been together for over a decade since July 2014. Granted, the dynamic shifted when Big E was forced into retirement after suffering a neck injury in January 2022.

Kingston and Woods had careers with WWE that spanned even longer. Kingston was with WWE for nearly 20 years before his exit, while Woods had been there since 2010.

They are decorated Superstars, with Kingston even winning the WWE Championship once. He also won the Intercontinental and United States Championships several times each.

The New Day’s members also won a combined 12 main roster tag team championships. WWE recognizes their NXT Tag Team Championship reign as well, giving the faction 13 total WWE-branded tag team championship reigns. Only the Dudley Boyz have more (18).

Fans will have to wait and see if they remain together outside of WWE. There’s always a chance that Kingston and Woods continue the New Day elsewhere, but they’re also 44 and 39, respectively, so perhaps they’re going to embark on new ventures.
