NBA rumors: The player Blazers won’t include in trade package for Jaylen Brown

The Portland Trail Blazers reportedly have strong interest in acquiring Jaylen Brown, but one player is considered untouchable in any potential trade discussions with the Boston Celtics.

According to Brian Robb of MassLive, Portland has no intention of including Deni Avdija in a package for the former NBA Finals MVP despite its reported interest in Brown.

“All-Star Deni Avdija would not be on the table in any trade talks, league sources tell MassLive and it would be tough for Boston to pry away Donovan Clingan as well. The Blazers do not have strong center depth behind Clingan with Robert Williams set to hit free agency so trading Clingan for Brown would simply create another hole on the roster.”

Robb noted that any realistic trade framework would likely begin elsewhere on Portland’s roster.

“That leaves a big contract like Jerami Grant ($34.2 million) a likely part of any offer for salary matching along with some other young intriguing options as potential parts of a deal. Guards Scoot Henderson or Shaedon Sharpe could be deemed as expendable amid Damian Lillard’s return. Toumani Camara will certainly be someone that Boston asks about as well since he’s on a team friendly long-term deal.

Ultimately, any deal with Portland will likely center around draft capital. The Blazers control the Bucks’ future first round picks from 2028-2030 and also have plenty of their own first-round draft capital.”

The report follows recent speculation linking Portland to Brown if Boston decides to make the All-Star wing available. The Blazers previously pursued Giannis Antetokounmpo before attention shifted toward Brown as a potential alternative.

Brown is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while helping Boston finish 56-26 despite lengthy stretches without Jayson Tatum. However, the Celtics’ season ended with a stunning first-round exit after blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Philadelphia 76ers.

For Portland, Avdija’s reported untouchable status underscores how highly the organization values the versatile forward as part of its long-term core. While the Blazers appear willing to aggressively pursue a star such as Brown, the report suggests they are not prepared to sacrifice every foundational piece in the process.

If Boston ultimately entertains offers for Brown, Portland appears positioned to assemble a competitive package built around veterans, young talent and significant draft capital — just not one that includes Avdija.
