NBA rumors: Nets named as Jaylen Brown suitor after near-Kevin Durant trade in 2023

The Brooklyn Nets are once again being linked to Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown as trade speculation surrounding the former Finals MVP continues. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Nets remain interested in Brown after nearly acquiring the All-Star forward in trade discussions involving Kevin Durant in 2023.

“Brooklyn nearly acquired Brown in trade talks for Kevin Durant before pivoting to Phoenix’s package in 2023. The Nets are armed with a treasure chest of future first-round picks, the expiring contract of last year’s All-Star candidate Michael Porter Jr., which would likely be needed to make any trade logistically, and center Day’Ron Sharpe, whom Boston had interest in last year, as HoopsHype reported.”

Scotto also reported that Brooklyn has explored other high-profile trade possibilities this offseason.

“In addition, the Brooklyn Nets also did due diligence and gauged the price tag for Herro, HoopsHype has learned.”

While teams around the league continue to monitor Brown’s availability, ClutchPoints Senior NBA Reporter Brett Siegel previously reported that the six-time All-Star has not requested a trade from Boston.

“League sources close to the situation told ClutchPoints that Brown has not approached any member of the front office or team president Brad Stevens to ask for a trade.”

The Celtics have nevertheless explored Brown’s value on the trade market this offseason. Boston previously discussed Brown in trade talks with the Milwaukee Bucks as part of its pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo before the two-time MVP was ultimately traded to the Miami Heat.

Whether Brooklyn’s reported interest develops into serious negotiations remains to be seen, but the Nets once again appear to be among the teams monitoring Brown’s situation as the offseason unfolds.
