NBA rumors: Insider names Blazers as Jaylen Brown trade frontrunner

The Portland Trail Blazers missed out on Giannis Antetokounmpo, who landed with the Miami Heat. It was reported that the Blazers were aggressive in pursuing Antetokounmpo, including offering Jerami Grant, Shaedon Sharpe, and draft capital.

But that does not mean Portland will now stay pat in the offseason. The front office is keen on making a big move, especially since it is the first offseason under new owner Tom Dundon.

With Antetokounmpo in the rearview mirror, the Blazers are focusing on Jaylen Brown, whom the Boston Celtics dangled to the Heat. The Athletic’s Sam Amick mentioned in a report that Rip City has a good chance to get Brown.

“With the (Denver) Nuggets’ reported interest in Brown unrealistic because of what they’re able and willing to offer (the Celtics, per league sources, have been asking for up to four first-round picks, and Portland is seen as the frontrunner there),” wrote Amick.

It is presumed that Brown’s already rocky relationship with the Celtics was only damaged further after the failed trade for Antetokounmpo, especially since he gave his all to Boston this season. He might be willing to move anywhere, including Portland.

The 28-year-old Brown is in his prime, and he could accelerate the Trail Blazers’ rise. They surprisingly nabbed the seventh seed in the Western Conference this season, ending a four-year drought in the playoffs.

With Damian Lillard expected to return, he and Brown could carry the squad, with Deni Avdija, Jrue Holiday, Donovan Clingan, and Toumani Camara providing support.

Similar to their trade package for Antetokounmpo, the Trail Blazers could offer Grant and draft capital to the Celtics in exchange for Brown, who is also being linked to the Atlanta Hawks, the New Orleans Pelicans, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Houston Rockets.
