NBA rumors: Brian Windhorst does meme with Clippers’ draft trade rumblings amid Giannis talks
When discussing Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors, Brian Windhorst stopped short of wagging his fingers as he did four years ago when he delivered a now-famous, prescient monologue. But Mike and Seth Greenberg did it for him, anyway.
Windhorst, while on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ this morning, drew attention to the Los Angeles Clippers scoping out late-lottery draft prospects, which was eerily similar to when he asked about what exactly was going on in Utah in 2022.
“I’m thinking about, if there isn’t a trade, if Milwaukee holds on to [Antetokounmpo]… Miami and Boston have gone pretty all in here. I don’t know if there’s any going back,” Windhorst said. “But my question is, whoever doesn’t get Giannis, what happens next? Will Jaylen Brown be put on offer to more of the league? Will the Heat pivot?
“Something interesting happened in the last few days. I started talking to agents, I started talking to executives. The Los Angeles Clippers started going to visit prospects who are in the late lottery — guys who can go from, like, picks 10 to 15. They have the fifth pick. Why are they doing that? Why are they doing that? They could be trading down, yes, but this draft is great; the fifth pick is valuable. Why are they looking — we got the Heat sitting there at 13, we got the Warriors sitting there at 11.”

Trade rumors have swirled around Antetokounmpo for the better part of a decade, before and after he led the Bucks to an NBA championship in 2021.
But the talks have appeared to heat up considerably in the past few seasons amid contention between Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee front office over relatively uncompetitive rosters and, most recently, an injury that sidelined Antetokounmpo for the rest of the season despite his objections.
Antetokounmpo, 31, is under contract for at least one more year; he is set to earn $58.5 million next season, and he could elect to exercise a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.
