Moses Itauma plans to waste no time as he sets ambitious target for world title dream

Moses Itauma wants to hold a world title before he reaches the age of 22.

That is according to his trainer Ben Davison who has set out the ambitions of the British heavyweight prodigy.

Itauma is on a remarkable rise right now and is deemed arguably one of the biggest prospects in world boxing.

The mercurial KO artist has passed every test so far with flying colours, and became the first to stop gatekeeper Jermaine Franklin last time out.

For the Chatham native, he is just 21-years-old but turns 22 in December.

And Davison believes there will now be no time wasted before pursuing a shot at the world title.

“I think the goal now is to get him a world champion as soon as possible. I think that’s the goal that we’re looking at,” his trainer Ben Davison told Sky Sports.

“I can’t say too much because it’s Queensberry Promotions’ job, Frank Warren’s job, George Warren, but I think that’s the goal.

“He wants to be a world champion before he’s 22.

“He’s in a very positive position with a number of the organisations, the sanctioning bodies, so it might be a case of someone might have to vacate or fight.

“It’s just risk versus reward with matchmaking with Moses. Experience will come along the way.

“We’ve tried with opponents to get rounds and I think we’re at the point now where we’ve seen enough.

“I’ve seen enough in the gym, I’ve seen enough in the fights where if these guys aren’t capable of doing the rounds, it is what it is.”

What is next for Moses Itauma?

Itauma is unlikely to fight for a world title in his next fight.

He will face a patient wait with a busy month of may for the heavyweight world title picture.

Daniel Dubois will face Fabio Wardley for the WBO world title on May 9, against whom Itauma will be the mandatory challenger.

And Oleksandr Usyk will face Rico Verhoeven on May 23, with the destiny of the other WBA, IBF and WBC titles to be discovered.

For now Itauma has a pencilled in return date for a headline event on July 25 at London’s O2 Arena.
