Mitch Marner’s 2-goal effort eliminates Mammoth in Game 6
The Vegas Golden Knights are moving on to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Mitch Marner scored two goals in Game 6 against the Utah Mammoth. Utah put in a good account of themselves in this series. In the end, though, the experienced Golden Knights are moving on this year.
Marner was the star of the show for Vegas on Friday night. However, he didn’t do this alone. Brett Howden and Colton Sissons also added goals, while Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore added assists. The Golden Knights skated away with a big 5-1 win at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City to eliminate the Mammoth.
Utah had a 2-1 series lead, but was unable to keep the puck out of its net. Crucially, they lost Game 5 in double overtime on the road. At home, they lost Game 4 in overtime, as well. Both games ended with a 5-4 score.
Vegas has advanced past the first round for the second year in a row. Last year, their season ended in the second round at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers. This year, though, they will avoid Connor McDavid and his teammates altogether.
The Golden Knights will take on the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Anaheim took on McDavid and the Oilers in the first round. It was a back-and-forth series, but Anaheim claimed victory in six games.
When both teams hit the ice for the upcoming series remains to be seen. But it’s clear that these teams are going to bring everything they have for a spot in the 2026 Western Conference Finals.
