Mike Brown makes eye-opening Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson statement before Game 4

The New York Knicks made some waves when they hired Mike Brown to be their head coach. It isn’t easy to lead a team in the prestige and fanfare of New York, as a misstep could prove costly and erode the trust of the fanbase. Brown might’ve put his foot in his mouth before Game 4 of the Knicks-Atlanta Hawks series with his comments about the usage of Mitchell Robinson and Karl-Anthony Towns, according to SNY Knicks via X, formerly Twitter.

“To play those guys together, it has to fit offensively and defensively throughout the course of the ball game,” Brown said. “At times, it’s a little difficult.”

Some of Brown’s lineup decisions were already a question before he made these comments. However, openly admitting that he isn’t sure how to approach having Robinson and Towns on the floor together isn’t the greatest confidence booster for his players or the fans.

After averaging nearly 20 minutes per game during the regular season, Robinson is now down to 14.7 over the first three games. Ironically, his scoring averages are up despite playing six fewer minutes, which is why some would like to see him in the rotation more often.

The spacing has been a bit off when they match up against the Hawks, but Brown has to find a way to free up his players. Whether Brown plays Towns more or finds a way to make it work with both on the floor, some coaching adjustment has to be made before Game 4. To this point, Brown hasn’t been able to do that, and it is showing with their 2-1 series deficit.
