Mikal Bridges has 1 hope for Jalen Brunson at ESPYs
New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson is up for several of the biggest honors at this year’s ESPYs, and teammate Mikal Bridges is hoping his college teammate turned fellow NBA champion leaves with a clean sweep.
"I hope [no one beats him]. I hope he sweeps everybody. I hope he wins them all."

Brunson is nominated for Best NBA Player, Best Male Athlete, and Best Championship Performance after leading the Knicks to their first NBA championship in more than five decades. He’s up against several heavy hitters in the various award categories, including Shohei Ohtani, Matthew Stafford, Lionel Messi and fellow NBA stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama. Meanwhile, the Knicks are nominated in the best team category amongst eight other teams across all sports.
Appearing on ESPN, Bridges was asked whether he’d be happy if Brunson won just one of the awards.
“I hope not. I hope he sweeps everybody. Hope he wins them all.”
Brunson is coming off one of the finest seasons of his career, serving as the driving force behind New York’s championship run. During the postseason, he averaged 28.4 points, 6.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 46.5% from the field and 36.3% from 3-point range.
His signature performance came in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, when he played 41 minutes and poured in 45 points to clinch the championship. Brunson also added three rebounds, three assists, two steals, knocked down four 3-pointers, and converted 13 of his 15 free-throw attempts.
Whether Jalen Brunson ultimately does sweep the ESPY categories remains to be seen, but Bridges has already made it clear where his vote of support is going.
