Michigan basketball rumors: Wolverines are ‘team to beat’ for Wake Forest transfer

The Michigan basketball program is riding high after winning the national championship at the NCAA tournament. Michigan is also working in the transfer portal, as it looks to defend its title next season. The Wolverines are seen as a favorite to land Wake Forest transfer Juke Harris, per On3.

“One of the most highly sought-after guards in the transfer portal, Juke Harris is receiving interest across the board. But multiple sources believe that Michigan is the team to beat. The Wolverines are working to finalize a visit as early as this weekend. Other schools fighting to get in the mix include NC State, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas Tech, among others,” the outlet reported.

Harris averaged more than 21 points per game this past season, for the Demon Deacons. He also grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game. Wake Forest missed the NCAA tournament, after closing out the season with a 18-17 record.

Harris made his mark at Wake Forest.

“He led the ACC in shots attempted, was third in points and 12th in rebounds, shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from deep,” Maize N Brew reported. “Harris was the first Demon Deacon to score 750 points or more in a single season since 1961. His game is mostly driving to the hoop for athletic finishes at the rim while drawing a bunch of fouls, racking up almost 250 free throw attempts.”

Michigan just defeated UConn to win the national title, in Dusty May’s second season at the school. The Wolverines went into March Madness as a no. 1 seed. May has now taken two programs to a Final Four.
