Mexico vs England – Bet Builder Tips | 45-1 odds and prediction | talkSPORT

England will have it all to do if they are to keep alive their dream of winning the World Cup when they face Mexico in the early hours of Monday morning.

They will be up against Mexico’s formidable record in the Azteca Stadium, a partisan home crowd and probably most crucially, playing at high altitude, something that none of this team are used to.

The bookmakers have seen fit to make England the favourites to win. We are not convinced, but with Harry Kane in such stunning form, it’s very risky to bet against the Three Lions.

Instead of betting on the match winner, I’ve put together a three-leg bet builder at staggering odds of 45/1, that looks perfect for a match that is hard to call.

Mexico vs England match details

  • Date: Monday July 6, 2026
  • Kick-off: 1am BST
  • Venue: Azteca Stadium, Mexico City, Mexico
  • Competition: FIFA World Cup Round of 16
  • TV channel: BBC1 and BBC iPlayer

Our 45/1 Bet Builder: Both teams to score, Declan Rice 1+ shot on target from outside the box, Harry Kane to score a header

All three legs of this bet builder are based on Azteca conditions and the role the home crowd are going to play in this match. The Mexicans will be on the front foot, looking to tire England out at the higher altitude.

This brings both teams to score into play as the home side will press high up the pitch, leaving themselves vulnerable to the counter-attack.

The conditions also make England shots from distance more likely, with Rice a good bet to hit the target, while Harry Kane is a danger from set pieces and already has headed goals at this World Cup.

Mexico vs England bet builder breakdown

Both teams to score

Why: Mexico will be looking for a fast start. Don’t be surprised to see an early goal in this. They will want to hit England hard and hope they tire out at the higher altitude as they chase the game.

Stat: Mexico have scored in all four of their World Cup matches, and they know England are vulnerable at the back. England have a Golden Boot candidate in Harry Kane, and Jude Bellingham is also a man for the big occasion.

⚽ Bet on Both teams to score at evens with bet365 ⚽

Declan Rice 1+ shot on target from outside the box

Why: Playing at altitude is set to take it out of England. They are likely to need to adapt their tactics to save their legs. Expect plenty of shots from outside the box, with both Rice and Anderson encouraged to test the keeper.

Stat: Rice has had three shots in his three matches at this World Cup, with one on target. He is capable from distance and is an option for dead-ball situations around the box.

⚽ Bet on Declan Rice 1+ shot on target from outside the box at 11/4 with bet365 ⚽

Harry Kane to score with a header

Why: England know that they won’t be able to outrun Mexico at altitude. Expect an added emphasis to be placed on set pieces for this match.

Stat: Harry Kane is in the best form of his life and has already scored headers against Croatia, Panama and DR Congo.

⚽ Bet on Harry Kane to score with a header at 9/2 with bet365 ⚽

Stats that matter for your bet

  • Both teams to score: Mexico have scored in all four of their World Cup matches. They have eight goals in total and have looked threatening in all their matches. England have scored in three of their four matches and also have Harry Kane.
  • Declan Rice to have 1+ shot on target from outside the box: There have been plenty of long-range goals scored at this World Cup, and with this match at altitude, England players may decide to test the keeper from distance with the ball travelling faster through the thinner air.
  • Harry Kane to score with a header: Three of Harry Kane’s five goals have come from headers. He is a threat at set pieces, where England still have plenty of room for improvement.
  • Additional information: England will have to play different tactics at the higher altitude. Mexico knows the conditions better, so England will have to play smart. Expect shots from distance to save on lung-busting runs and more focus placed on set pieces.

Why we are backing this bet builder

This bet might sound ambitious, but when I break it down, there is a method to this apparent madness.

Both teams scoring is the perfect place to start. England’s defence has looked vulnerable at times and there is a chance they will concede again.

However, England have some very potent attacking weapons of their own, and it’s hard not to see them scoring against Mexico, who aren’t one of the teams likely to win the World Cup.

We’ve seen Declan Rice score from free kicks outside the box before for Arsenal. To win this leg of our bet builder, he only has to hit the target.

Rice may be more inclined to shoot from distance in this match for various reasons. There is the way this ball has behaved in flight, and the altitude could encourage England to take more long-range shots.

As for Harry Kane to score with a header, well, he already has three headed goals at this World Cup. Kane is always a threat at corners, and along with his goals, he has found himself in plenty of space many times in this World Cup. This is no coincidence.

It’s a long shot, but this bet builder is well worth it and offers great value.

Mexico vs England odds

England are the betting favourites to win at 27/20 to win in 90 minutes and they are 4/5 to win the tie by any method. Mexico, who have home advantage, are 21/10 to win in 90 minutes and even money to qualify for the quarter-finals.

A draw is 11/5, with England 8/1 to win on penalties and 10/1 to win after extra-time. Mexico are 17/2 to win on penalties and 14/1 to win after extra-time.

Mexico vs England match prediction and line-ups

Mexico are 12 matches unbeaten and have an outstanding record at the Azteca Stadium, where they have won 70 of their 89 matches, drawing 17 and losing just two.

The stadium sits 2,200 metres above sea level and provides a major test of strength and endurance for any visiting team not used to playing in such conditions.

However, there is no need to get carried away with the statistic that Mexico has only lost twice here. Knockout football is different, and a draw may be enough for England to go on and win the tie.

This will be the toughest test of the World Cup for Tuchel’s team to date, but they have it in them to take the match to extra-time, with the tie probably decided on penalties.

Prediction: Mexico 1-1 England

  • Harry Kane to score with a header
  • Match to be decided on penalties

Mexico Predictions: Mexico have no reported injury concerns and Javier Aguirre looks set to stick with his flexible version of the 4-3-3 formation.

This system allows Mexico to quickly transition and switch to a more attacking 3-2-5 overload when they regain possession. The tactic is perfectly suited to the Azteca where opposing players can struggle with the different conditions.

  • Predicted XI: Ranger; Gallardo, Vasquez, Montes, Sanchez; Fidalgo, Lira, Gutierrez; Quinones, Jimenez, Alvarado.

England predictions: Thomas Tuchel has to decide between making tactical adjustments for the higher altitude or just sticking with his 4-2-3-1 formula that has got his England team this far.

One selection debate is over who plays at right-back. Djed Spence frequently incurred the wrath of Tuchel in the match against DR Congo. However, it seems unlikely Tuchel will risk putting Rice in that position in place of the Tottenham full-back.

Anthony Gordon’s contribution in the 2-1 win over DR Congo could see him recalled to the starting line-up. But Tuchel may decide to hold him back, and along with Noni Madueke, use both as impact substitutes.

  • Predicted XI: Pickford; Spence, Konsa, Guehi, O’Reilly; Anderson, Rice; Rashford, Bellingham, Saka; Kane.e the two genuine uncertainties to monitor before placing.
