Mets pitcher Freddy Peralta’s wholesome Tyrone Taylor moment will have fans smiling
The New York Mets took two of three games over the New York Yankees to win the Subway Series. On Sunday, the Mets were down big late in the game, but then Tyrone Taylor hit a game-tying home run to force extra innings, where the Mets would take the victory.
Freddy Peralta started the game and gave the Yankees the lead. After the game, he was all smiles, talking about the big home run, per SNY Mets.
“It was a very special and exciting moment. It was, without being afraid to say this, it was one of the best moments I experienced before,” Peralta said. “Coming from him (Taylor), it was really nice because he’s a great guy, great player.”
From off camera, Taylor can be heard saying, “Thanks, bro.”
The Mets had not won a game being down by three or more in the ninth in their last 131 tries. The team was down three heading into the bottom of the ninth. Carson Benge singled to center to open the inning, and Bo Bichette then singled to put two on. After a Juan Soto fielders choise and Mark Vientos struck out, Taylor stepped to the plate down to their last out. He took a first-pitch curveball to left field to tie the game.
Taylor is a surprise hero for the Mets. He is hitting just .188 on the season and came in off the bench. Taylor now has three runs and 14 RBIs. He is also hitting just .129 in May, and had not hit a home run since April 26 against the Colorado Rockies.
Even after taking two of three from the Yankees and winning five of their last six, the Mets are still just 20-26, sitting in last in the NL East. They open a four-game series on the road against the Washington Nationals on Monday.
