Mets’ Luis Robert Jr. injury update means he’s not close to returning

The New York Mets are not having a good season, and the injury to Luis Robert Jr. has compounded things. Now, the news got worse, and it seems like he might not be anywhere close to a return, according to Chelsea Janes of SNY.

“Luis Robert Jr. has not even begun baseball activities, so write him off for now. That leaves Lindor as the last big piece, and he was running, throwing, and taking ground balls for several days even before this road trip. Considering he will likely need a substantial ramp-up period on a rehab assignment before returning, a conservative estimate for his return could be two to three weeks, or mid-to-late-June, barring a setback,” Janes wrote.

The Mets were already struggling when Robert landed on the injured list. Ultimately, it has not gotten better as they find themselves 27-35 and in last place in the NL East. They currently trail the Atlanta Braves by 15 games and the Pittsburgh Pirates by six games for the last wildcard spot in the NL.

There were many varied predictions about the Mets this season. Notably, some believed they could contend for the division. But that has not transpired, as they have collapsed underneath their injuries to their top stars. With the uncertainty around Robert and others, what could have been a promising season has unraveled, and the Mets are underwhelming. As they await Robert’s return, they will attempt to make up ground, and slowly attempt to climb out of the hole they have put themselves in.
