Mets’ David Stearns drops ‘tricky’ truth on Jorge Polanco’s injury

With the New York Mets playing the waiting game on certain injuries on the team, the one player who has yet to make his return is Jorge Polanco. As Polanco is currently recovering from an Achilles injury with the Mets, the president of baseball operations, David Stearns, gives the latest on the issue at hand.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Stearns would speak on a myriad of topics, with one reporter asking about Polanco’s injury and if there is a chance he could come back before the All-Star break, starting on July 13. Stearns would say the team hopes that he will, but admits that Polanco’s injury has been a “tricky one.”

“Yeah, certainly our plan and belief is yes,” Stearns said, via SNY Mets. “This has clearly been a tricky one, and so I think until he’s back on the field at the major league level, it’s going to be tough for any of us to say conclusively exactly what’s going to happen here.”

New York manager Carlos Mendoza spoke about Polanco’s recovery process on Saturday, saying that it has been an up-and-down journey.

“He’s still hitting, he ran the bases today, but going back to three, four weeks ago, there’s days where he feels good, and then it flares up again, and we have to slow things down,” Mendoza said, per SNY Mets.

At any rate, Polanco looks to come back after recording a .179 batting average to go along with one home run and two RBIs in 14 games with the Mets, as it remains to be seen when he officially returns.
