Mets’ Carlos Mendoza’s job security gets massive update from David Stearns

It has not been a fun time in Queens, as the New York Mets have struggled to start the season. Despite this, Carlos Mendoza’s job is safe, as he has gotten a strong show of faith from Baseball President of Operations, David Stearns, according to MLB.com writer Anthony DiComo.

“We know our record is not what we want, and we know we are capable of more. We don’t view this as a manager problem, and we don’t intend to make a change,” Stearns told DiComo.

The Mets currently sit at 10-21 and last in the NL East. Much of that start was due to a 12-game losing streak that soured April. Additionally, there have been injuries. Francisco Lindor has been out for a while, dealing with a calf strain. Recently, the Mets lost Luis Robert Jr. to lower back tightness, and that was another big blow to their team.

The Mets are off to one of their worst starts in franchise history. After many prognosticators had this team contending for a title, they have struggled to get anything going. Much of the issue has been the offense. So far, the Mets are 27th in batting average, 30th in on-base percentage, 29th in runs, 26th in home runs, and 30th in slugging percentage. Their pitching has not been great, ranking 15th in team ERA.

Mendoza will get a chance to right the ship and get the Mets back on track. However, they are mired in a bad slump and trail the first-place Atlanta Braves by 11.5 games. There is work to do, and the Mets must snap out of their slump to have a chance to make the playoffs this season.
