Mets’ Carlos Mendoza shares reaction to Carson Benge’s ‘incredible’ feat vs. Padres
Carson Benge enjoyed a strong performance in the New York Mets’ series finale against the San Diego Padres on Sunday evening. This prompted manager Carlos Mendoza to have plenty of praise for the star outfielder.
Benge is hitting .265 with seven home runs, 26 RBIs and 10 stolen bases after the first 62 games of his rookie campaign. He continues his remarkable momentum to start June, hitting .360 with three home runs, five RBIs and a stolen base over his first six games. On top of that, Benge also leads the Mets in stolen bases and ranks third in both home runs and RBIs.
Benge went 5-for-5 at the plate in New York’s finale against San Diego, hitting both a triple and a home run. He became just the 13th player in MLB history to go perfect in his five at-bats while hitting a triple and home run, via Mike Mayer of Metsmerized.
Mendoza reflected on the performance after the game, via SNY Mets. The manager liked how the star rookie began things strong and paved the way for New York to coast to victory.
“Carlos Mendoza says that Carson Benge “set the tone” for the team today, and that his performance was “pretty incredible,”” the post read.
“It’s cool to see, rockets pretty much everywhere,” Mendoza said.
