Mavericks’ Sergio De Larrea is already winning championships after 2026 NBA Draft

The Dallas Mavericks made two picks in the first round of the NBA Draft, but it’s uncertain what one of their futures will hold in the lead. Sergio De Larrea was acquired by the Mavericks in a three-team trade with the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. Da Larrea has been playing overseas for most of his career, and funny enough, he had just won the Liga Endesa after getting drafted.

“They called me at 6 in the morning, but I was asleep. In a few hours, we’ll talk and see what decision we make,” Da Larrea said.

The expectation pre-draft was that the guard would likely play in Europe next season, but there is still a chance that he plays in the Summer League. Da Larrea has the skills to contribute where the Mavericks need him next season, but he could be in a draft or stash situation with him.

Nonetheless, the Mavericks still have players ready to compete now, including Morez Johnson Jr., who was drafted with the No. 9 pick in the first round.

It’s been a busy week for the Mavericks, as they hired Dusty May as their new head coach, and he’s a good option for a young core looking to build for years to come.

Last season, the Mavericks made strides with their core, and with May’s system, the hope is that they can continue to trend upward. With Cooper Flagg at the forefront, the future is bright, and adding Johnson will make them even better.
