Mavericks rumors: Anthony Davis trade ‘unlikely’ before deadline

The Dallas Mavericks were once the center of attention when it came to trade rumors, and it all revolved around Anthony Davis. There were a number of teams that were interested in Davis, but after he suffered a hand injury, that interest went away. Still, rumors have said that the Mavericks could be looking to shop Davis, but as of now, it looks like he will be staying with the team, according to Christian Clark of The Athletic.

“With the NBA trade deadline 10 days away, it remains unlikely that Anthony Davis will be on the move, multiple league sources have told The Athletic,” Clark wrote.

With Davis’ injury history and him currently being sidelined, it may be hard for the Mavericks to get real value for him at this point. Brett Siegel of Clutch Points also noted that he didn’t see Davis moving before the deadline.

“I don’t really see Anthony Davis being traded at this point,” Siegel said on ClutchScoops. “We’ve wrote about that before on ClutchPoints that there’s just no market with his injury. The teams that were pursuing him (Hawks, Raptors) have major concerns about those injuries that he has been stacking up in Dallas. And so it does seem likely that AD will remain in Dallas past the trade deadline.”

The Mavericks are currently 19-27 and are the 12th seed in the Western Conference. They still have enough time to make up some ground so they can sneak into the Play-In, and they have yet to see what they could look like when they’re fully healthy.

Davis still could return in the coming weeks, and Kyrie Irving is still sidelined as he recovers from the ACL injury he suffered last season. If they can get them on the court together, with Cooper Flagg playing the way he has, the Mavericks could make some noise late in the season.
