Matt Fitzpatrick wins PGA Tour Zurich Classic alongside brother after clutch bunker save

Matt Fitzpatrick has his third win of the year. Fitzpatrick won the 2026 Valspar Championship, and then Fitzpatrick won the RBC Heritage.

Now, Fitzpatrick has a fifth win of his career, winning alongside his brother, Alex, and thanks to a massive shot on the 18th hole of the Zurich Classic.

The Zurich Open is a team event, with multiple pairs of golfers. One member of the pair is chosen based on PGA Tour rankings, and they choose their partner. The Cut line is 33 teams, and while a team earns FedEx Cup points, it does not affect the World Golf Rankings or invitations to The Masters. The first and third rounds are four-ball style, while the second and third rounds are alternate shot.

Going into the 18th hole, the two were level with Alex Smalley and Hayden Spinger, as well as Kirstoffer Reitan and Kirs Ventura. After a second shot on the Par 5 18th hole found the bunker, Matt Fitzpatrick put the shot from the trap within feet of the hole. The team was able to drain the birdie putt and win the tournament, 31 under par.

With the win, Alex Fitzpatrick now has an exemption on the US tour and spoke about that after the event.

“I’m booked on a flight tonight to play in Turkey [in the DP World Tour] but I think this gets me into Miami [in the Cadillac Championship that starts at Trump Doral on Thursday],” he said. “It is a great position to be in and it is so, so special to win this with my brother.”

The field for the Cadillac Championship has not been announced yet, but play is April 30 through May 3. There are just three tournaments until the PGA Championship at Aroimink Golf Club.
