Former club Manchester United retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause for Greenwood, who left Old Trafford in 2024.

talkSPORT understands at least one Premier League club explored the possibility of signing Greenwood before deciding against it due to fears of a backlash from fans.

Greenwood’s career

The 24-year-old will move onto the fourth club of his career.

Coming from the Man United academy, Greenwood’s Red Devils career was halted when he was suspended by the club in January 2022.

This was after he was arrested and charged for attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. These charges were dropped in February 2023.

Greenwood joined Spanish club Getafe on loan in August 2023, where he scored ten goals in 36 appearances for them, winning their Player of the Season award.

A permanent move didn’t follow with the player opting to sign for Marseille in the summer of 2024.

He enjoyed a very productive two-year spell at Marseille as he scored 48 times in 81 appearances, while also providing 17 assists.

His form in France led to some Premier League clubs explore a move for Greenwood, however, these didn’t materialise.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest in Greenwood in the past.

Greenwood’s final season at Marseille saw him win the fans’ Player of the Season prize but now a new challenge in Turkey awaits.

Fenerbahce bound

The one-cap England international joins a Fenerbahce side that narrowly missed out on the Turkish Super Lig title last season as they finished three points behind winners Galatasaray.

They have been Turkish champions on 19 occasions, although the last time came back in the 2013/14 season.

Fenerbahce are hoping to reach the Champions League proper for the upcoming season, and they face Polish side Gornik Zabrze in the second qualifying round, with the first leg to take place on July 21.
