Mariners top prospect Colt Emerson’s MLB timeline receive massive update

The Seattle Mariners signed top prospect Colt Emerson to what was then a record-setting $95 million contract extension. All before he made his debut at the MLB level.

It shouldn’t be long before Emerson is donning Mariners across his chest though. While he didn’t give a firm timeline, president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto made it clear the infielder is expected to play in MLB during the 2026 season, via MLB Now.

“He’s as close as they come,” Dipoto said. “It’s why we did what we did. Colt is trending toward a 20-year-old debut. Generally speaking, young players who get to the big leagues that soon tend to play long careers. Our goal was to have a marriage set up with Colt through what should be some of the most productive years of his career.”

“If we do it right, he’ll be a lifetime Mariner,” he concluded. “He’s a wonderful young man, as good as they come. That is in addition to filling up all the boxes in terms of your polish as a player.”

Selected in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Emerson has appeared in 237 games at the minor league level. He is hitting .286 with 23 home runs, 133 RBIs and 39 stolen bases. Over his 13 games at the Triple-A level in 2026, Emerson is batting .265 with a home run, five RBIs and two stolen bases.

When the Mariners signed the infielder to his contract extension, it was clear they had big plans for him in the future. That future should arrive sooner rather than later with Emerson ticketed for a 2026 debut barring something unforeseen.
