Mariners rookie Colt Emerson saves win streak with epic sliding catch
The Seattle Mariners stretched their winning streak to eight games Tuesday night, and Colt Emerson supplied the final image. The rookie third baseman sealed an 8-3 win vs. the New York Mets with a sliding catch in foul territory at T-Mobile Park.
The play came with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Brett Baty lifted a popup off Cooper Criswell toward the third-base side, and Emerson broke toward the wall as the ball drifted near the seats.
The Mariners’ rookie third baseman slid near the barrier, reached across his body, and secured the ball before contact. The grab ended the game, brought the crowd to its feet, and gave the club another clean finish during its strongest stretch of the 2026 MLB season.
MLB shared the moment Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter, posting the game-ending grab as the Mariners continued to turn their recent surge into a stronger statement.
“Colt Emerson ends the game with an unbelievable catch!
The @Mariners have won EIGHT straight!”

Seattle did plenty before Emerson’s final play. The Mariners powered the win with three home runs and created enough separation to avoid late pressure, but the rookie’s defensive moment became the lasting snapshot of the night.
The streak has changed the tone around the club. Seattle opened 4-5 and sat 16-18 through 34 games, leaving the Mariners searching for steadier footing. Since May 15, they have gone 11-6 and pushed themselves back into rhythm.
For Emerson, the catch added another memorable moment to a rookie season already moving quickly. For Seattle, it preserved momentum, capped another complete win, and gave the Mariners more evidence that their June push is sustainable.
