Mariners’ Bryan Woo reaches low vs. Cardinals not seen since July 30, 2025
Bryan Woo was a pillar of consistency during most of the 2025 regular season, and the same had been true through his first five starts of the 2026 campaign. Every now and then, however, the right-handed starting pitcher implodes on the mound. He had a disastrous outing versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, one that probably brought back some bad memories.
Woo allowed seven runs on nine hits, four of which were home runs, in just three innings of work. He found the strike zone at a fairly high rate, but the Cards capitalized. Catcher Pedro Pages gave his club a 7-4 lead after launching the ball over the left field wall inside Busch Stadium (just stayed fair), marking the first time since a July 30, 2025 start versus the Athletics that Woo has surrendered four homers in a game, per the Talkin’ Baseball X account.
One can read his lips after Pages took him yard and immediately understand the frustration he was feeling.
Pedro Pagés goes deep right around the pole to add two more runs for St. Louis!

The 2021 sixth-round draft pick might just have to forget this abysmal afternoon and trust that his process will produce better results the next time out. He had a 2.25 ERA and 0.875 WHIP entering this game, so the Mariners will expect him to resume his workhorse role. Unfortunately, this is a bad time for him to wobble.
Despite gaining some steam after winning four of its previous six, Seattle is still three games below .500 at time of print. Woo could have positioned the M’s for its first road series victory of the young season.
Even so, the club managed to overcome its hurler’s flare-up and pulled even with the Cardinals in the sixth inning.
