Michael Carrick is the current favourite to lead Manchester United out for their first game in charge of next season following an four month spell in caretaker charge of the club he represented over 450 times player.
The former England and United midfielder was announced as the Red Devils’ caretaker boss until the end of the season midway through January following last month’s sacking of Ruben Amorim.
The idea was for the 44-year-old to lead Manchester United until the end of the current season and for the club to hire a permanent replacement in the summer, but 10 wins from Carrick’s opening 15 matches so far, including victories over Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool has left many wondering if the board may offer him the role full-time.
Carrick, who had been managing Middlesbrough in the Championship for the last three seasons, took over a Man Utd side sat seventh in the Premier League table after a turbulent opening half of the season.
Four months to the day later, the club have guaranteed themselves Champions League football, and are all but confirmed of a third place finish with the Red Devils sat six points above fourth placed Liverpool with just two matches of the campaign remaining.

Should Carrick not be offered the Manchester United role on a permanent basis this summer, talkSPORT BET have priced current Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as the most likely to take his spot in the dugout.
The Spanish manager has already confirmed he will be leaving the Vitality Stadium at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract on the south coast.
The 43-year-old has impressed hugely across his three seasons at Bournemouth, taking over a side widely touted for relegation and taking them on a journey that could yet result in Champions League football next season and the club’s first ever European campaign.
However, due to the former Rayo Vallecano manager’s impressive spell in Dorset, he is a man in demand this summer and is the current favourite for both Crystal Palace and Newcastle, and is also in the conversation for the Chelsea and Liverpool rules.
Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is another name being linked with an Old Trafford take over for the new season.
The Italian won the Club World Cup and the Conference League across his 18 month spell with the Blues, which came to an end in January this year following disagreements with club’s hierarchy.
The current Germany and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The 38-year-old has a Bundesliga title to his name as manager and will currently have his mind set on managing his native Germany in the 2026 World Cup, but may be lured back into club management after the tournament, despite his current contract expiring after Euro 2028.
Both Maresca and Nagelsmann are priced as joint third favourites for the role at 12/1, just ahead of the likes of outgoing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and former England boss Gareth Southgate.
