Manchester United v Leeds prediction

Manchester United clash Leeds on Monday night, 24 days after they last played a game, the 2-2 away draw against Bournemouth.

Full focus will be on stamping their authority on third spot, and crucially going 10 points clear of Chelsea in sixth, with the top five qualifying for Champions League football next season.

Michael Carrick has overseen a winning run of six consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford. The team has collected 29 points since Christmas, a tally bettered only by Arsenal in that time.

During those 24 days of no football for Carrick’s men, Leeds have made a date with Wembley. Beating West Ham on penalties to secure a spot in the FA Cup semi final against Chelsea.

This will have the whole club buoyant and feeling positive as they attempt to go six points clear of Tottenham, in 18th place.

On the team news front, Leeds will be without Anton Stach and Joe Rodon due to ankle injuries.

Former United winger Daniel James is also unavailable with a muscle problem. Jaka Bijol, Noah Okafor, and Gabi Gudmundsson will take late fitness tests, but all through could well be involved in the match day squad.

As for the home side, defenders are on the mind. Lisandro Martinez is in contention to return after a calf injury. His return is timely as Harry Maguire serves a one-match suspension.

Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined while recovering from a back issue. But full back Diogo Dalot should feature despite a recent bout of illness.

Manchester United v Leeds betting tips

United’s imperious home form

Old Trafford is becoming a fortress again? Carrick has won all his home matches in charge.

Over the last 10 games, they are actually top of the home form table. Winning seven and losing just once.

With Bruno Fernandes orchestrating this up tick in form and new found confidence in the squad.

The captain will yet again be at the fulcrum of everything good that United are able to do on the night.

Leeds to pack a punch?

There’s been two draws in the last three Premier League fixtures between the clubs. This included the 1-1 draw at Elland Road in January, that spelled the end of Ruben Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford.

Leeds have conceded only twice in four games. The Whites have drawn seven of their last eight away league fixtures.

Daniel Farke’s side have shown they have an attacking thrust compared to some of the clubs around them. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has found his form in a Leeds shirt this season.

While Noah Okafor, Brendan Aaronson and Lukas Nmecha offer a different kind of threat to be able to adapt to different game states.
