Lynx’s Courtney Williams gets Napheesa Collier shoutout after defensive masterpiece vs. Tempo

Courtney Williams received immense praise from co-star Napheesa Collier following the former’s performance in the Minnesota Lynx’s blowout win over the Toronto Tempo on Thursday night.

Williams is going through the 11th season of her WNBA career, her third with the Lynx. She shines as a two-way star in the league, delivering great quality as a playmaker and defender.

In 25 minutes of action, Williams showcased those talents once again. She finished with a stat line of 16 points, five assists and three rebounds. She shot 6-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Collier reflected on Williams’ performance after the game, per reporter Andrew Dukowitz. She described her co-star as a spark for the team, igniting runs that go in favor in Minnesota en route to victories.

“Courtney is just such a spark, Courtney is a great defender, we can trust her to be on their best offensive player every night. We know she takes it personally too, like she takes real pride in that…. I have all the faith in the world in her as a defender,” Collier said.

How Courtney Williams, Lynx played against Tempo

Courtney Williams, Napheesa Collier and the Lynx are on fire while progressing through the second half of the season. Their 104-72 blowout win over the Tempo is another example of that.

Five players scored in double-digits for Minnesota in the win, including Williams. Collier enjoyed a strong night with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks. She shot 7-of-12 overall, including 2-of-2 from downtown. Olivia Miles came next with 16 points and three rebounds, while Dorka Juhasz provided 12 points and five rebounds.

Minnesota improved to a 24-6 record, controlling the top spot in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Las Vegas Aces and the Golden State Valkyries at the moment.

Rolling with nine consecutive wins, the Lynx will look forward to their next matchup. They will be at home when they host the Indiana Fever on Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. ET.
