LSU’s Lane Kiffin fires back at Big Ten dominance narrative with SEC defense

New LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin is immediately tapping into his verbose side. Kiffin already drew attention for a narrative about Ole Miss, which he later clarified. But now he went after the Big Ten by defending the SEC.

Kiffin hopped on Pardon My Take to fire back at the Big Ten dominance chatter populating across the college football nation. Only this time he cleared up the difference between the scheduling aspect between both conferences.

“There’s a lot (that goes) into that. I think it’s set up in a good way for the top-heavy teams there right now. And it’s going to get better,” Kiffin began. “We’re going to nine games, and our bottom is harder than theirs.”

Kiffin wasn’t through in backing the SEC scheduling.

“And our bottom stadiums are harder (to play in) than theirs,” he said. “So we’re going to beat each other up more, and they’re going to sit up there and have 2-3 hard games a year.”

The 51-year-old even believes that the College Football Playoffs will set up better for the SEC representatives.

“So, their top teams and our top teams, when they go to the Playoffs, they’re in better shape. And that stuff matters,” Kiffin said.

Both conferences are the new standard bearers in college football. The SEC rose as the most dominating during the 2000s era, producing 14 national title winners total. Kiffin coordinated the Alabama offense for the Crimson Tide team that claimed the crown in 2015. However, the Big Ten has watched a representative win the last three national championships.

Kiffin will aim to get LSU back into the title picture. He’s already brought back 2019 national champion coach Ed Orgeron in a consultant role.
