Liverpool vs Brighton & Hove Albion predictions and betting tips – Reds running out of chances
Liverpool can still qualify for the Champions League this season, but even that might not be enough to save Arne Slot. A trophy and a top-five finish, on the other hand, would represent a decent outcome from here.

Liverpool vs Brighton & Hove Albion predictions
Things change quickly in the Premier League.
After throwing away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to Manchester City last weekend, the received wisdom was that Liverpool were unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.
That might still be the case, but the situation is looking considerably brighter after the midweek round of fixtures.
On Tuesday both Chelsea and Manchester United dropped points against relegation candidates. Chelsea could only manage a 2-2 draw with Leeds United despite having been 2-0 up, while Manchester United needed a last-gasp equaliser to avoid defeat by West Ham United.
It was essential that Liverpool took full advantage of those slip-ups, and that is exactly what they did. Virgil van Dijk scored the only goal of the game against Sunderland as the champions became the first visiting team to win at the Stadium of Light in 2025/26.
It was an impressive result for Liverpool, who ground out the sort of hard-fought victory that every top-five challenger needs a few times a season.
They did a good job of neutralising Sunderland’s threat and created enough chances at the other end to win the match. Van Dijk’s goal came from a corner, but the Reds fashioned openings from open play too.
“[It was] very important,” Slot said afterwards. “I think we dug deep, after only two days of rest. Then going to a difficult away game. We showed again how well we can play on the ball. We created so many opportunities today.
“The character we have shown throughout the whole game was very good and that is why we leave this place with a 1-0 win.”
Will it be a turning point? There have been a fair few false dawns in recent months, so no one at Anfield will be getting carried away just yet.
Liverpool need to build on that success this weekend. Brighton & Hove Albion are their opponents in the fourth round of the FA Cup, a tournament the Reds ought to take seriously. Although a top-five finish is their principal aim, a trophy would increase Slot’s chances of keeping his job beyond the summer.
Fabian Hurzeler’s position is under more immediate threat. A defeat here could spell the end for the Brighton boss, who is under huge pressure following a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Liverpool vs Brighton & Hove Albion betting tips
Liverpool will be seeking back-to-back wins when they host Brighton & Hove Albion.
Liverpool to match on
That defeat by Aston Villa came a few days after Brighton were beaten 1-0 by their arch-rivals Crystal Palace.
The Seagulls have now won just one of their last 13 matches in the Premier League, leaving Hurzeler under massive pressure. Many Brighton fans are now openly calling for a change to be made.
The under-fire manager is unlikely to get the victory he so desperately needs on Sunday.
Liverpool remain an imperfect team but the defeat of Sunderland will have given them a much-needed lift.
We should see an entertaining encounter with Brighton not content to just sit back, but Liverpool are poised to emerge triumphant.

Lively second half
It was no surprise that Liverpool scored the only goal of the game against Sunderland in the second half, just three days after all three goals in their clash with Manchester City came after the break.
Throughout this campaign, Liverpool’s matches have been much livelier in the second period than the first.
Just take a look at the numbers. In the Premier League Liverpool have scored 13 goals in the first half and conceded 12. In the second half of games, those numbers jump to 28 and 23.
Brighton have conceded 17 goals in first halves and 17 in seconds, but their attack is much more effective in the latter section of matches: 24 goals scored versus 10.

Ekitike back on scoresheet?
Hugo Ekitike has had a quiet couple of games but it is only a matter of time before he gets back to his best.
For all the hype around Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz last summer, Ekitike has been Liverpool’s best newbie so far.
With Isak out for an extended period, Ekitike knows that he will start up front whenever he is fit. That must give him the confidence to play his natural game free of pressure.
Ekitike has 15 goals to his name already in all competitions. He can move onto 16 – or perhaps even more – on Saturday.
