Lionel Messi living the Mercedes F1 dream in Miami
The F1 Miami Grand Prix is almost here, and Inter Miami FC captain Lionel Messi was recently spotted living the Formula 1 dream. Arguably known as one of the most popular athletes in the world, Messi also shares a special fandom for F1. Spotted with several F1 cars throughout his career, Messi was this time spotted at the Mercedes garage before the Miami Grand Prix.
A resident of Miami, Messi, along with his family, attended the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix weekend. While visiting the paddock, Messi also met with Franco Colapinto, who is the sole Argentine competitor in the current Formula 1 season and one of the few Latin American drivers participating in the series.
Messi also stopped by the Mercedes AMG Petronas garage, where he was met and guided by George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. The FIFA World Cup-winning captain also proceeded to live a F1 fan’s dream and sit in the driver’s seat of a Formula 1 car. Russell and Antonelli provided a detailed explanation of the steering wheel’s various functions to Messi and his family, as they explained the operation of the system.
He also shared photos from the event on his social media, where he was seen smiling and posing inside the car. He looked visibly surprised and paid close attention to the car’s details, observing the setup with evident interest. The Miami Grand Prix took place on May. 3, 2026, at Miami International Autodrome and was eventually won by Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri followed up with the second and third positions.
