Lindsey Vonn ditches crutches, gets helped up stars at Met Gala
Lindsey Vonn showed the Met steps who’s boss!
The Olympian who suffered from an injury to het left leg following a crash during the 2026 Winter Olympics shared her first steps without crushes to the 2026 Met Gala. The alpine skier wore Thom Browne to the Met to capture her take on this year’s theme “Costume Art” with the dress code “Fashion is Art.”
Vonn wore a custom Thom Browne marble-inspired gown that was created to resemble broken glass. She told People on the red carpet how she felt tonight.
“I feel amazing,” she told PEOPLE at the event as two men made sure she got up the steps safely. “[Browne] always makes me feel good.”
Over the weekend, she shared that being at the Met Gala will be a huge milestone in her recovery from her crash during the Winter Olympics. She suffered a complex fracture in her left leg when she crashed during the women’s downhill event in Italy.
“There are a few stairs. Yes, it’s going to be intense,” she admitted to CNN News Central. “I was like, can I do this? Can I do this? You know, Thom Browne asked me a long time ago. And I love Thom. We did a campaign together during COVID. And it’s been like the thing that I’m like, can I get there? Like, you know, it’s like been the light at the end of the tunnel. And I’m going to try to walk.”
Vonn added, “It’s, like, technically supposed to be my first day of walking a little bit without crutches. So from the start to the top of the stairs, if I can make it with no crutches, that’s a huge win.”
She has been keeping her fans updated on her recovery online like sharing a video of herself doing pullups back in March.
Vonn has three Olympic medals and eight World Championship medals under her belt. While the 2026 Olympics didn’t go as planned for her she is steadily focused on her recovery at the moment noting with CNN that she is in “survival mode” and not yet ready to decide on her future in the sport.
