Lakers’ Luka Doncic will be motivated to embarrass AJ Dybantsa after ‘ISO island’ challenge

The Los Angeles Lakers have had an interesting offseason, losing LeBron James in free agency and trading for Walker Kessler in a big move, along with other additions on the open market. There’s no doubt now that the Lakers are fully Luka Doncic’s team, although there are major questions about just how competitive this roster can be.

Recently, newly minted number one overall draft pick AJ Dybantsa of the Washington Wizards simultaneously praised and called out Doncic ahead of his rookie season.

“I watched Luka play live, and it’s so easy for him. I just want to be on the defensive end and just see if it’s that easy,” said Dybantsa, per Nico Martinez of Fadeaway World. “This sounds crazy, but I just want to be on like an ISO island. This sounds crazy, but I want to be on an ISO island and just really see if he’s moving that slow.”

Dybatnsa isn’t the first person to notice that Doncic’s relative lack of speed or a quick first step makes it somewhat strange that he is clearly so difficult to guard in isolation situations. However, Doncic’s uncanny timing, balance, and high release point have made him a nightmare that opposing defenses haven’t even started to figure out over the course of his eight years in the NBA.

Still, that clearly isn’t going to stop Dybantsa from trying whenever the Lakers take on the Wizards this year. The Lakers will find out which dates they will take on Washington when the NBA schedule is released at some point later this month.

For now, the Lakers will scour the market for any potential other additions before the new season arrives.
