Lakers’ LeBron James reacts to not facing Warriors’ Stephen Curry the entire season

To the fans who watched the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors play at Chase Center on Thursday, you may want to keep your tickets and place them in a safe box. They might be worth a lot in the next few years.

The Lakers defeated the Warriors, 119-103, in what could be the final meeting of LeBron James and Stephen Curry in the regular season. Or maybe even ever.

It is quite possible that James would finally retire at the end of the season, which would also mark the end of his storied rivalry with Curry, who sat out the game on Thursday due to injury management.

James and Curry have not played against each other this season. They still have a chance to do so if the Lakers and the Warriors meet in the playoffs. But if not, we’ve seen the last of their head-to-head in 2025.

The 41-year-old James rued that he and the 38-year-old Curry have not shared the court this season.

“We actually talked about it a little bit. We both didn’t even realize it until, I guess, today,” said James in the locker room.

“I was hurt early on, and then in the last two games, he didn’t play. We never know. We don’t know what the future holds. We don’t know when we get the opportunity to play against each other or how many more times we get to play against each other. But it was always a pleasure and always an honor just to be in his presence, to be on the floor with him, and what we had in the past.”

The two MVPs had their fair share of heated battles, including four straight meetings in the NBA Finals. But over the years, James and Curry have developed a close relationship, often publicly declaring their admiration for each other.

James had 26 points, eight rebounds, 11 assists, and two steals in their win over the Warriors.

He and Curry shared a tight hug after the game, with cameras surrounding them, capturing what could be the final image on the hardwood together for the two generational stars.
