Kyle Schwarber gets 100% real on decision to return to Phillies
After a huge 2025 season, Kyle Schwarber realistically could have signed with a number of teams this past offseason. In the end, Schwarber re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. During an in-game interview on Tuesday while the Phillies were playing the Chicago Cubs, Schwarber explained why he decided to return to Philadelphia, via B/R Walk-Off.
“You wanted to respect the whole process, right? You get to go into free agency… But there was always that thing that’s pulling you back, right,” Schwarber said. “… Knowing that the team we have, you can’t really ask for more when you have a group of guys here that are… You look at the paper and it’s star-studded. Pitching staff, offense, defense, coaching staff, top to bottom organization. Knowing that we always have a chance to make the postseason. That’s the biggest thing.
“What else can you ask as a player? You play this game to win championships. We got a championship-caliber roster here. We whole-heartedly believe that.”
The Phillies have been a consistent contender in recent years. Philadelphia has not won the Fall Classic since 2008, though. Despite an up and down start to the season, the Phillies will surely find themselves in the playoffs again this year. The question is whether or not they can make a World Series run.
Kyle Schwarber seems to believe they can. On paper, the roster has no shortage of talent, so it would not be surprising. Finding a way to upset the Los Angeles Dodgers in the postseason will be the big challenge.
