Knicks-themed trash can stolen by ex-JPMorgan employee returns ‘home’

After one of the New York Knicks-themed trash cans was stolen by a woman, who was later identified as a JPMorgan employee after being fired, it has been returned, and NYC’s Sanitation department is overjoyed.

The NYC Sanitation’s X, formerly Twitter, account posted an image of the trash can back in front of the commissioner’s office, writing, “Welcome back! We missed you!” with an arrow pointing at the waste basket.

Fans were ruthless in the comments section of the post. One fan called for them to charge the woman with theft, explaining, “As a tax payer, I pay the [NYC Sanitation] so she stole from me. She is a thief. Charge her with littering too, as she emptied the trash can full of garbage on the sidewalk.”

Someone else found it amusing that the woman, who lost her job, wasn’t able to keep the bin. They called it “tragic.” Another X user wrote, “Lost her job and the trash can. Phew.”

The fan who stole the trash can was identified as Angie Báez. She lost her job after videos surfaced of her stealing one of the Knicks-themed trash cans, which were available to purchase via OnlyNY.

The videos of Báez gained traction online. The New York City Department of Sanitation responded to them, saying, “Dumping trash onto the street and stealing public property for your own personal use are both illegal, antisocial behaviors, and not what New Yorkers do.” Báez wasn’t charged with a crime, but she still faced consequences for her actions.

New York has been on cloud nine since the Knicks won their first championship in 53 years. They beat the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals to win the chip. The parade was held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in New York City.
