Knicks superfan Donald Trump makes NBA Finals plans at MSG official

When Madison Square Garden (MSG) hosts its first New York Knicks NBA Finals game since 1999, expect President Donald Trump to attend.

The New York Post reports that Trump is planning on going to Game 3 (the first Knicks home game of the series) on Monday, June 8. They note, however, that “there’s always the chance plans change.”

According to the report, MSG has been gearing up for a potential visit from the president. They have held “security walkthroughs.”

Game 3 will be historic for fans. It marks the first NBA Finals game hosted by the Garden in 27 years. The Knicks will also have a chance to win their first championship in 53 years in 2026.

The New York Post also notes that NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is also expected to be at the game. However, as he has made clear, he won’t sit with the president (which the Post also notes).

Trump’s potential attendance shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, the New York-born president recently said he was invited to the Knicks’ Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, New York swept Cleveland, so Game 5 wasn’t necessary.

He also has a close relationship with Knicks owner James Dolan. Trump raved about him, calling him a “great guy,” and was happy that his team was succeeding.

The NBA Finals begin on Wednesday, June 3, in San Antonio. Games 3 and 4, which will be played on June 8 and 10, will bring the series to the Big Apple.

New York will come into the series well-rested after having more than a week off. They swept the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cavs on their way to the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, the Spurs are coming off a grueling seven-game series against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
