Knicks’ Mike Brown sends Game 4 warning after Spurs’ Game 3 free-throw discrepancy
The New York Knicks failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity to virtually seal the 2026 NBA Finals series on Monday.
In Game 3 of the series against the San Antonio Spurs, the Knicks suffered a 115-111 loss, as their series lead was cut in half to 2-1. For New York head coach Mike Brown, a chief reason behind his team’s downfall in Game 2 was the great free-throw discrepancy that favored San Antonio.
“I never thought I’d be in the NBA Finals and see a team get 24 free throw attempts in the second half to another team’s eight,” Brown told reporters in the postgame press conference (h/t SNY Knicks).
Brown also warned about the Knicks’ Game 4 outlook if New York gets dominated in the same department again.
“If they do this in Game 4, where it’s 24-8 in the second half, it’s going to be tough for us to win,” Brown added.
Overall in the contest, the Knicks went 18-for-22 from the foul line, while the Spurs were 25-for-32 from the charity stripe.
Victor Wembanyama, who led the Spurs with 32 points, shot 11-for-18 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. Another Spur who benefited from freebies was Stephon Castle, with the former UConn Huskies star scoring 23 points and going 5-for-6 from the stripe.
In any case, the Knicks are still in a good position to win the NBA Finals. They have another chance to win a game at Madison Square Garden in Game 4 on Wednesday for a possible 3-1 series lead before playing Game 5 in San Antonio on Friday.
